Welcome to The Bible Money Journal, a brief for Christian professionals who want to learn more about God’s ways of managing money. In each edition, I share a verse, a story, and a money lesson to help you in your journey.

This brief is a resource for navigating the scriptures through the lens of financial planning and learning how to apply them in your life.

Let’s get started!

Genesis 39:2-6
2 The Lord was with Joseph, so he succeeded in everything he did as he served in the home of his Egyptian master. 3 Potiphar noticed this and realized that the Lord was with Joseph, giving him success in everything he did. 4 This pleased Potiphar, so he soon made Joseph his personal attendant. He put him in charge of his entire household and everything he owned. 5 From the day Joseph was put in charge of his master’s household and property, the Lord began to bless Potiphar’s household for Joseph’s sake. All his household affairs ran smoothly, and his crops and livestock flourished. 6 So Potiphar gave Joseph complete administrative responsibility over everything he owned. With Joseph there, he didn’t worry about a thing—except what kind of food to eat!

In Genesis 39:2-6, we see an example of financial success through the story of Joseph. Joseph was sold into slavery by his brothers, but he worked hard, and God blessed him with success.

Faithfulness and Diligence Lead to Success

Joseph was a faithful and diligent servant to Potiphar. He worked hard and made sure everything under his care was taken care of. As a result, Potiphar saw that the Lord was with Joseph and put him in charge of his entire household. This led to Joseph being blessed with success in all that he did.

We can learn from Joseph's example by being faithful and diligent in our work. We must always strive to do our best, as if our work was done for the Lord. By doing so, we can build trust with whoever we work with and be successful in our careers.

Honesty and Integrity are Important

When Potiphar put Joseph in charge of his household, he entrusted him with everything he had. Joseph could have easily taken advantage of this and stolen from Potiphar. However, Joseph was an honest and upright man who refused to compromise his integrity. He resisted temptation and did not sin against God or Potiphar.

It is crucial that we maintain honesty and integrity in all that we do. We must be transparent with our financial dealings and always act above reproach. We must also resist the temptation to take advantage of others or compromise our integrity for financial gain.

God is the Source of Blessings

The passage states that the Lord was with Joseph and blessed him with success in all that he did. Joseph's success was not because of his own abilities or talents but because God was with him. Joseph recognized this and gave credit to God for his success.

It is important to remember that God is the source of all blessings. We must always give credit to Him and recognize that our success is because of His grace and favor. He is the one who has given us our gifting and the ability to work.
